About Point Roberts Yacht Club
The Point Roberts Yacht Club is located in Point Roberts, Washington, just across the border from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Our Mailing address is: P.O. Box 852, Point Roberts, Washington 98281
The origins of the Point Roberts Yacht Club date back to 1980, shortly after the Marina facility was constructed. A group of enthusiastic boaters got together and implemented their vision of establishing a club that would:
· Promote safe boating through instruction, participation and sharing of experiences
· Enhance enjoyment of many water sports, and
· Provide a range of social activities both at the Club and at cruising destinations.
The Point Roberts Yacht Club was inaugurated in 1981 with about one hundred families participating. The first Club race was held in 1982 with Ian and Agnes Jackson as the Race Committee. The Club consists of a number of membership categories, including Active (boat owners), Social (crew), Out-of-Town (cruising the world), Junior, Student and Honorary. There is a healthy mixture of boats – about half being sail, and half power – with sizes ranging from 24 feet to 115 feet in length. The Club owns a number of single kayaks for member use.
"N" dock is the home of the Point Roberts Yacht Club, but many members moor at other docks as well. The facilities at Point Roberts Marina are excellent. The concrete docks have power and water. The accessible washroom facilities include laundry and showers. There is a pump out, fuel dock, two haul out facilities and full marine maintenance services on site. A chandlery and restaurants compliment the services. The major advantage of the Point Roberts Marina is accessibility to open water. Within 5 minutes of casting your lines you are out of the harbour enroute to Semiahmoo, the American San Juans, the Canadian Gulf Islands or the northern strait – four completely different directions. Although the Club is located in the United States and most of the members are Canadian, the border crossing presents little problem.
The Point Roberts Yacht Club currently shares facilities with the Point Roberts Marina Club located in the marina building. The Club hosts many activities ranging from sail racing to destination cruising to social functions and educational events. There is an active racing fleet and the Club hosts three racing series each year. Numerous educational evenings covering topics from "How to Winterize Your Engine" to "The Latest in Safety Gear" are held each year. A major social event is held each month, such as wine tasting, dances, games nights and cruise parties.
If you are looking for interaction with people interested in power boating, sail boat racing, cruising or just plain having a lot of fun, you can find it at the Point Roberts Yacht Club!
